Three Togo eSIMs, side by side.

Saily
A simple three-plan lineup backed by NordVPN, though Togo's carrier is not named.
$9.49 / 1GB · 7 days
  • Only 3 plans, an easy pick with no ladder to study
  • 5GB / 30 days at $44.99 covers a longer stay
  • Carrier not disclosed for Togo
Airalo
The widest plan range for Togo, on the same Moov-Etisalat network as eSIMply.
$9.00 / 1GB · 3 days
  • Nine plans across four validity windows, the most flexible lineup here
  • 10GB / 30 days at $49.50 for a data-heavy trip
  • Names Moov-Etisalat, the same network as eSIMply

This guide compares five eSIM providers that actually sell data for Togo: what each one charges, which network it runs on, and where the plans differ enough to matter. You will find a full price comparison, a plan-by-plan breakdown of every provider, and the practical details worth sorting before you land in Lomé.

02 Full comparison

Every Togo eSIM plan, compared.

Four of the five providers below name a Togo carrier, and three of them, eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad, point to the same network: Moov-Etisalat (aloSIM’s page still uses its older name, Telecel Togo). With coverage this similar, the table below sorts mainly by price and plan size.

03 eSIM vs local SIM

Buying a Togo SIM versus just using an eSIM.

A physical SIM in Togo means finding a shop or a street vendor, then handing over your passport, since registering a SIM with government ID is required by law at the point of sale. That gets you a real Togolese phone number, which an eSIM does not.

An eSIM skips that step entirely. eSIMply’s own product page advertises “No KYC (No ID Required)”, and every other provider checked for this guide works the same way: install before you fly, connect on arrival, no shop visit needed.

The trade-off is that these eSIMs are data-only, so if you need to receive calls on a Togolese number, a local SIM still has a place. For everyone else, the entry eSIM price starts at $7.95 for 1GB, cheaper than a first-day taxi ride spent hunting for a working SIM shop.

Airalo is the most widely used travel eSIM brand globally, and for Togo it publishes by far the widest lineup checked for this guide: nine plans spread across four validity windows from 3 to 30 days. Its product page names Moov-Etisalat as the network, the same carrier eSIMply uses.

That range makes Airalo the practical choice once you need more than eSIMply’s single 1GB tier. The 5GB / 7 days plan at $28.50 suits a standard week in Lomé, and 10GB / 30 days at $49.50 is the largest bucket any provider in this comparison offers.

The Airalo app guides you through installation step by step on iOS and Android. QR code install takes under two minutes, and the app shows remaining data in real time.

What works
  • Widest plan range for Togo, nine options across four validity windows
  • Names Moov-Etisalat, the same network as eSIMply
  • Mature app with reliable QR install and live usage tracking
Trade-offs
  • Entry price of $9.00 for 1GB is higher than eSIMply’s $7.95, and that cheapest tier only lasts 3 days versus 7 elsewhere
  • Nine plans to compare is more choice, but also more research than a single-tier lineup

Saily is built by the NordVPN team, which lends a security-brand trust signal. For Togo it keeps things simple: just three plans, from 1GB / 7 days up to 5GB / 30 days, with no confusing ladder to work through.

Saily does not name its Togo carrier on the product page, saying only that it connects to “Togo’s best networks.” The app shows live data balance on iOS and Android, and every plan carries a 180-day activation window before it expires unused.

What works
  • Simple three-plan lineup, easy to pick without comparing a long ladder
  • NordVPN backing gives a security trust signal and a polished app
  • 180-day activation window, so an unused plan does not expire quickly
Trade-offs
  • Carrier not disclosed for Togo, so you cannot verify the network before buying
  • Tops out at 5GB / 30 days, with nothing larger for a heavy-data trip

Nomad

Nomad names Moov as its Togo carrier, matching eSIMply and Airalo’s Moov-Etisalat disclosure. The lineup runs four plans from 1GB / 7 days up to 10GB / 30 days, a straightforward step-up ladder with no short-validity options.

The entry price is the highest among the providers checked here, at $15.00 for 1GB versus eSIMply’s $7.95, so Nomad suits travellers who want a bigger bucket from the start rather than the cheapest possible short trip. The Nomad app shows a live data balance on iOS and Android.

What works
  • Names Moov directly, one of only two providers checked here that discloses a carrier without qualification

  • Clean app with live data tracking
Trade-offs
  • Highest entry price checked for Togo, $15.00 for 1GB versus eSIMply’s $7.95

aloSIM lists one plan for Togo, 1GB for 7 days at $9.00, and names Telecel Togo as the network on its coverage page. That is the same underlying carrier eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad call Moov or Moov-Etisalat; Telecel was the network’s original brand name before it became Moov Togo.

Unlike the other providers here, every aloSIM plan includes a free Hushed phone number for calls and texts, a genuine differentiator if you want a number for hotel check-ins or local app sign-ups without paying extra.

07 Country essentials

Before you go to Togo.

Togo throws a few things at first-time visitors that have nothing to do with your data plan. The country runs on cash, relies on one real mobile network, and has at times restricted messaging apps during unrest. Here is what to sort before you land.

The eSIM gotcha

Every Togo eSIM we found runs on the same network, so brand-switching will not fix bad coverage.

The biggest thing eSIM buyers get wrong about Togo is assuming a different provider means different coverage. eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad all name Moov-Etisalat (or its older brand, Telecel Togo, in aloSIM’s case), and Saily does not name a carrier at all. There is no second network to switch to if one plan underperforms in your area.

Coverage is strongest in Lomé and the southern coastal towns, and it thins out fast once you head north. Togo also has a documented history of restricting WhatsApp and other messaging apps during periods of political unrest, most recently just last year, and no eSIM can route around a nationwide block like that.

Every Provider Names the Same Network (or None at All)

Togo has only two mobile operators, and every eSIM provider that discloses a carrier for this country points to the same one. Airalo’s own product page names Moov-Etisalat as the primary network, Nomad’s page says plain Moov, and aloSIM shows the carrier’s older brand name, Telecel Togo. Switching providers here rarely buys better coverage, since almost everyone rides the same towers.

A Local SIM Wants Your Passport, an eSIM Doesn’t

Buying a physical SIM in Togo means registering it with a passport or other ID, a step required by law at the point of sale. Every eSIM checked for this guide skips that step, and eSIMply’s own Togo page advertises “No KYC (No ID Required)” as a selling point.

Messaging Apps Have Gone Dark Here Before

Togo has a documented history of restricting WhatsApp, Facebook, and Telegram during periods of political unrest, most visibly during the 2017 protests and again as recently as last year. No eSIM can route around a nationwide platform block, so keep a backup way to reach people if you are travelling during an election or protest period.

This Is Togo, Not Congo, and It’s Barely 71 Miles Wide

Togo is easy to mix up with the Republic of the Congo or the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but it sits more than 1,500 miles away on West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea coast, wedged between Ghana and Benin. It is less than 115km (71 miles) wide between its two neighbours, one of the narrowest countries in Africa.

Budget Time for an Electronic Departure Form

Togo’s entry process runs through an online declaration rather than a paper form, and the Traveler Declaration Form must be completed online before you arrive. One traveller recounted on r/Togo a similar electronic form before airport security on departure, plus a full hand search of carry-on bags at the boarding gate. Do the online form from the hotel, not the airport.

Getting around and paying for things.

i
Getting around

Zémidjan motorcycle-taxis are the default way to get around, and the app that actually works here is Gozem, running about $2 to $3 a ride in Lomé. Shared taxis cover longer routes between towns for a few dollars a seat. Download Google Maps offline before you go, since coverage drops fast outside the coast.

$
Paying for things

Togo runs on cash. Card acceptance is rare, limited to a handful of hotels in Lomé, and mobile money (Flooz and T-Money) needs a local phone line most visitors will not have. Bring CFA francs or euros to exchange, since the franc is pegged to the euro at a fixed rate.

Lomé and the rest of southern Togo run on zémidjan motorcycle-taxis, a fixture of the capital since the early 1990s that locals treat as the default way to get around. Fares are negotiated before you get on, not metered.

The app that actually works here is Gozem, a motorcycle- and car-taxi platform that launched in Togo in 2018. One American visitor said on r/Togo it was the easiest way to get around with a language barrier, at roughly $2 to $3 a ride.

Shared taxis cover longer routes between towns for a few dollars a seat. The same traveller paid about $2 for a 90-minute shared-taxi trip, though they can get crowded and hot.

Roads deteriorate quickly once you leave the main coastal highway, and the UK Foreign Office notes that roads outside towns are poorly lit, with unpaved sections that can flood in the rainy season.

On money, Togo runs on cash. Card acceptance is very rare and limited to a handful of major hotels in Lomé, and mobile money (Flooz from Moov, T-Money from Togocom) is how locals pay digitally, though both need a local phone line to register.

A handful of ATMs in the capital accept international cards, per both the UK Foreign Office and UnionPay’s own network listing, but do not count on finding one outside Lomé. Bring enough cash for your whole trip, ideally CFA francs or euros to exchange, since the franc is pegged at a fixed rate.

Apps to install before you leave.

These are the apps r/Togo threads and first-hand traveller accounts consistently flag as worth installing before you fly, not generic packing-list filler.

i
Tipping in Togo

Tipping in Togo is modest and optional rather than expected. A rough guide is 5 to 15% for taxi drivers, restaurant staff, and hotel staff, more for exceptional service, and nothing at all for street food.

$
Cash vs card

Togo runs on cash. Card acceptance is very rare and limited to a handful of hotels in Lomé, and even where a card machine exists, it is not always reliable. A few ATMs in the capital take international cards, but do not count on finding one elsewhere.

Where you’ll actually use your eSIM in Togo.

Five places where your eSIM will actually earn its keep, and where the network reality above starts to matter:

01 Lomé
The capital and the only place with consistently strong 4G coverage. The Grand Marché, Akodessewa Fetish Market, and Coco Beach are all an easy walk or Gozem ride apart.
02 Kpalimé
A hill town about 2 hours from Lomé with waterfalls and coffee plantations. Coverage holds up in town but drops fast on the surrounding trails.
03 Kara and Koutammakou
Home to the UNESCO-listed Batammariba tower houses. Expect a noticeably weaker signal than the coast.
04 Togoville
The lakeside voodoo-heritage town across Lake Togo from Agbodrafo. A short, popular day trip from Lomé with workable coverage.
05 Aného
A former colonial capital on the coast east of Lomé. An easy add-on to a Togoville day trip, with coverage similar to the capital.
08 Decision guide

How to pick the right Togo eSIM.

Togo is a small, mostly single-network market, so the decision is simpler than in most countries. It comes down to how much data you actually need, whether the plan names a carrier, and how long your trip runs.

For general guidance on sizing a plan for any trip, see eSIMply’s guide to choosing the best eSIM plan. The questions below are specific to Togo.

How much data does a Togo trip actually use?

A few days in Lomé running maps, WhatsApp, and Gozem rarely needs more than 1 to 2GB, which is why eSIMply’s single 1GB / 7-day plan at $7.95 covers most short city stays. If you are adding day trips to Kpalimé or Kara with heavier map and photo use, size up to Airalo’s 5GB / 7 days at $28.50 or Nomad’s 5GB / 30 days at $35.00.

Which network does a Togo eSIM actually use?

eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad each name a carrier for Togo, and all three point to the same underlying network: Moov-Etisalat (shown as plain “Moov” on Nomad’s page, and as its older brand name, Telecel Togo, on aloSIM’s). Saily does not name a carrier at all, so it is marked “not disclosed” rather than guessed.

Does it matter if you’re heading north, past Lomé?

Every provider checked here covers Lomé and the southern coastal towns well, since that is where Moov Africa’s network is strongest. Coverage gets noticeably weaker heading north toward Kara and Koutammakou, and the UK Foreign Office advises against travel within 5km of the Burkina Faso border entirely, so no eSIM plan changes that calculus.

Is a single-country Togo eSIM better than a West Africa regional plan?

If Togo is the whole trip, a single-country plan is cheaper: eSIMply’s $7.95 entry price beats most regional West Africa bundles for a short stay. If you are also crossing into Ghana or Benin on the same trip, price a regional eSIM covering multiple West African countries separately, since these Togo-only plans do not carry over once you cross a border.

i
Quick tip

Set the new eSIM as your primary data line and turn on data roaming for it before you land, since Togo’s network connects on arrival rather than requiring a manual APN setup. Download offline maps for anywhere beyond Lomé, since coverage genuinely thins out once you leave the coast.

09 Frequently asked questions

Togo eSIM questions, answered.

These are the questions that come up most before buying a Togo eSIM, from network coverage to whether you need a local phone number at all.

If your question is not here, the comparison and provider breakdowns above cover every plan checked for this guide.

You do not strictly need one, but it beats hunting for a SIM shop and handing over your passport for registration, which Togolese law requires for a physical SIM. An eSIM installs before you fly and connects automatically on arrival, which matters in a country where the local ride-hailing app, Gozem, needs working data from the moment you land.
Coverage is strongest in Lomé and the southern coastal towns, where Moov Africa’s network (named as Moov-Etisalat, Moov, or the older Telecel Togo, depending on the provider) is at its best. It thins out heading north toward Kara, and the extreme north near the Burkina Faso border carries its own travel advisory separate from connectivity.
Yes. eSIMply, Airalo, Saily, Nomad, and aloSIM, the five providers compared in this guide, all let you buy online and install before you fly. Check your phone supports eSIM, then scan the QR code you receive by email and switch on data roaming once you land in Togo.
eSIMply has the cheapest entry price checked for this guide, $7.95 for 1GB over 7 days, though it is also the only provider with just one plan tier. Airalo has the widest range and the largest bucket, 10GB for 30 days at $49.50, if you need more data than a single 1GB plan covers.
Togo has two mobile operators, and eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad all name the same one for their eSIMs: Moov Africa, shown as “Moov-Etisalat” on eSIMply and Airalo’s pages and plain “Moov” on Nomad’s. aloSIM’s page names “Telecel Togo,” the same network’s older brand name, and Saily does not disclose a carrier for Togo at all.
A few days in Lomé using Google Maps, WhatsApp, and the Gozem ride-hailing app typically burns 1 to 2GB, which is why eSIMply’s single 1GB / 7-day plan covers most short stays. For a longer trip or one that includes day trips north, Airalo’s 5GB or 10GB tiers or Nomad’s 5GB / 30-day plan give more room.
For most visitors, yes. An eSIM installs at home and skips Togo’s passport-registration requirement for physical SIMs entirely, with entry pricing from $7.95. A local SIM does give you an actual Togolese phone number, so if you need one, keep your home SIM in a second slot for calls while the eSIM handles data.
No, the travel eSIMs compared here are data-only and carry no Togolese phone number or cellular calling. Keep your home SIM in for calls and two-factor codes, set the new eSIM as your default data line, and turn off roaming on the home SIM to avoid charges. aloSIM is the one exception among the providers checked here, since it includes a free Hushed number alongside the data.
Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line specifically, since it is usually off by default even once the eSIM is installed. Close any VPN that is stuck “Activating,” and if it still fails, manually select Moov Africa as the network in your cellular settings. No plan can fix a nationwide platform block if Togo is restricting specific apps during unrest, so check local news if only certain services fail.
Yes, hotspot and tethering work on all five providers compared in this guide, so you can share your Togo eSIM’s data with a laptop or a travel companion’s phone. Tethering burns through a data cap faster than normal use, so size up if you plan to share your connection for more than a few minutes at a time.
Our methodology

How we ranked Togo’s eSIMs.

We work in eSIM technology full-time, so this is not a side-hustle review. Our methodology comes from operating in the space, knowing how providers source their data, and tracking which underlying network they actually route traffic through.

  • We checked each provider’s own Togo product page directly: eSIMply and Airalo name Moov-Etisalat, Nomad names Moov, and aloSIM names Telecel Togo (the same network’s older brand). Saily does not disclose a carrier for Togo, and we report that as “not disclosed” rather than guess.
  • Togo is a genuinely thin market: three of the eight providers we normally compare, Jetpac, Roamless, and GigSky, do not currently sell a Togo eSIM at all, and eSIMply itself lists only one plan tier. We dropped those three rather than list a product that does not exist.
  • We compare entry-plan pricing, the size of the largest available bucket, validity windows, and whether hotspot use and a phone number are included.
  • Where two providers share the same underlying network, as eSIMply, Airalo, and Nomad do here, we rank by price, plan flexibility, and installation experience instead.

We may receive commission from some providers if you purchase via our links. This never influences our rankings. Underperforming providers get excluded regardless of affiliate relationship.
